Summary DeRez is a 2' x 8', free standing LED Wall. We find the DJ area at most events to be the last area thought about it terms of lighting and decor, and realize the difficulty in mounting these kinds of lights in random, unpredictable zones, so we put the wall on speaker stands.
Resources
We were donated all of the 6" x 6" Module FX Panels as well as the power supplies by our magnanamous lighting benefactor, Carl Gruesz.
We had to custom build the cables and manually insert leader cables in each individual panel [64 panels x 6 connections each]. Shawn Faherty purchased the bulk of the hardware with James Arthur chipping in the remainder. This included Gaffer tape, pipe insulation for the edges, zip ties, and other misc. items.
CEMI had 2 speaker stands on hand for this which we modified for use with the lights.
What did you learn? It takes a village to raise a lighting installation. We couldn't have done this without the help of CEMI members. Also, I would much rather use connectors than ever have to manually squeeze leader cables into connectors ever again. It causes too many problems and I usually need to repair one or two before each show. What's Next? Debating building a third panel, as we have the new lights. Shawn and Dan are exploring getting this to work with Touch Designer.
We're building more content for it in Resolume, and hopefully, improvements in the Syphon Plugin allow us to save configurations. Anything else? Great Experience, and really made me value the payoff after a really difficult job. Badge Degrees Awarded for:
